Delaying the important, non urgent tasks
A weird title, I know. But, we at share my photographs have been discussing this a fair bit lately in the office, as we always receive inquiries and the conversation normally has people saying they absolutely understand the importance of preserving their family legacy for future generations to enjoy. But, it is always one of those items on the important ‘to do, but not urgent List’, that just gets overshadowed by the ‘urgent, important stuff’; we have to deal with on an everyday basis.
So, things like digitizing our print photographs and other visual media like video tapes, slides etc., often gets lumped in the same category as having our family photo shoot done. These are things we would really like to do, but just never appear to get the time.
So, what happens then – Well, on the family photography side we hear a lot of stories of “I wish we did this several years ago when the children were smaller, now we are missing those important nuances of childhood that professional photographers do such a great job of bringing out in people”. Or, “if only we did this when (———) was alive, we could have captured several generations together”
On the digitizing of visual media side, we often hear too many sad tales associated with delaying this process and the reason this has surfaced again in the office, is with the recent terrible fires we are witnessing throughout B.C and other places. At the time of this blog there are over 180 fires burning and many people have to evacuate their homes. Sadly, there will be people who lose many possessions and some will have to decide what to grab urgently in the last moments before evacuation. We can only carry so much and although the majority of people say in theory, one of the top possessions they would save in a fire would be family photographs, in the haste these can often be overlooked.
So, sadly there will be people during this terrible time and likewise in other disasters that will lose a lifetime of memories simply because they never got around to scanning their old film photos.
If you hear of anyone within B.C who has endured such a tragedy with the recent fires, please let them know that if they have any damaged photos that have been recovered and appear destroyed, then to please contact us and we will do our best to help them make good any restorable images free of charge. As a Vancouver based photo scanning and Restoration Company we truly feel for anyone who is having to go through this and will help the best we can.
For the rest of us, this simply brings home the importance of not delaying this important process. We owe it to our children and future generations to preserve our family history, especially in this digital age where so many images are simply stuck on a smart phone.
At Share My Photographs we have several easy processes in place designed to eliminate the hassle out of organizing, digitizing and archiving your print and digital memories and we can do as much, or as little of the work for you as required for pennies per image. So, there is no excuse to deal any longer.
Give us a call today and we would be pleased to answer any questions.
